It wasn't long ago when Samsung teased the successor to its Android-based Galaxy Gear smartwatch, and now a new report has emerged claiming that the next-gen smartwatch from Samsung will come running its HTML 5-based Tizen OS instead of Google's Android operating system.

Citing three people familiar with the matter, the report says the South Korean giant, alongside the updated Gear smartwatch, will also unveil its new HTML5 version of the Tizen operating system at the Mobile World Congress event later this month.

The Tizen Association (the circle of 36 companies) announced an additional 15 partners, including Baidu, ZTE and Sprint, on February 12 who are adding their voice and expertise to the development of the Tizen Operating System (OS).

The open-source Tizen platform supports multiple devices including smartphones, tablets, Internet-enabled TVs, netbooks and in-vehicle infotainment systems.
The Tizen Association is an industry consortium that supports the development of an open source software platform and operating system - Tizen - which supports a wide range of connected devices.
