Samsung's Galaxy S5 smartphone will be water and dust-proof, according to a report.

ZDNet claims that the standard edition of the handset will be resistant to the elements, but did not reveal the source of its information.

Samsung released a water and dust-proof version of the device's predecessor called the Galaxy S4 active, but the standard edition did not include these features.

Previous reports suggest the Galaxy S5 will feature a QHD (2560 x 1440) Super AMOLED display, a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel camera with 1080p video playback and recording, and a 3000mAh battery.

The handset is also said to include a fingerprint sensor built into its home button, granting users access to shortcuts and providing an extra layer of security.

Samsung will unveil the handset at the Mobile World Congress on February 24.
