Samsung Galaxy S5 owners rejoice, as the South Korean company has just kicked off the rollout of the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade for its previous flagship smartphone.

Although an early Lollipop build leaked online recently, we did not think Samsung would be able to deliver the update to Galaxy S5 owners by the end of the month.

While it’s still unclear if this is just a pilot rollout, the folks over at SamMobile report Samsung Galaxy S5 users in Poland are the only ones that can now download and install the highly anticipated update.

It’s also worth mentioning that the upgrade that’s being deployed now targets Samsung Galaxy S5 model SM-G900F, so if you own another variant of the smartphone and live in Poland, you won’t be getting Lollipop yet.

As expected, the update only targets unlocked Galaxy S5 units, so if your smartphone is carrier branded, then you will probably have to wait a few more weeks for Lollipop to arrive.

Talking about Samsung’s achievement, it’s worth mentioning that the handset maker was able to deliver the first Android 5.0 Lollipop update for one of its smartphones only a month after it’s been handed the build from Google.

Currently, there are only a handful of smartphones that have already received the latest version of Android, aside from Nexus 4 and Nexus 5.

The update is available via Samsung Kies and is about 950MB in size

The Galaxy S5 is the second smartphone confirmed to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop in Poland, after LG announced a few weeks ago its G3 flagship handset would be getting the major upgrade in the same country.

If nothing goes terribly wrong, we expect Samsung to start rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop for Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F) in additional European countries very soon.

For those who are still having second thoughts on whether or not it’s worth upgrading to Android 5.0 Lollipop, keep in mind that this version of the OS is one of the speediest that has ever powered a Samsung device.

Thanks to the new Material Design UI, ART and lots of other performance improvements, Android 5.0 Lollipop is blazing fast on the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Samsung may have finally optimized its apps and services, which might be another reason Lollipop runs smoothly on the Galaxy S5.

Anyway, those who do not live in Poland but still want to flash Android 5.0 Lollipop on their Samsung Galaxy S5, should head over to the original thread and download the .zip file.
