Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime is not really a new smartphone. The Android handset was officially unveiled back in September and made it to market one month later.

It's one of the most popular Samsung smartphones in India and other emerging markets, which is probably one of the reasons the South Korean company decided to bring it to even more carriers in the United States.

After making its debut at Cricket a few months ago, major carrier Sprint announced it will offer Samsung's Galaxy Grand Prime as well, beginning July 10.

The smartphone will be available for $240 off contract or $30 with new two-year agreements. In addition, customers eligible will be able to get the Galaxy Grand Prime for $0 down, no finance fees and 24 monthly payments of $10 (service plan required).

“Every year, parents across the country head to stores looking to get their kids a high-quality smartphone their friends will envy at an affordable price.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and the Sprint Family Share Pack make it possible for parents to give their kids a premium smartphone and enough high-speed data for the entire family without breaking the bank,” said Doug Kaufman, director-Device Strategy, Sprint.
It comes with Lollipop instead of KitKat

The good news is the smartphone will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, even though the Galaxy Grand Prime was powered by Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS at launch.

Hardware-wise, the smartphone is of mid-range quality. It packs a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, an Adreno 306 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

The Galaxy Grand Prime comes with only 8GB of internal memory, but users will be able to further expand storage up to 64GB.

It's also worth mentioning the device sports a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that support 540 x 960 pixels resolution.

On the back, the Galaxy Grand Prime features a 8-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, while in the front there's a secondary 5-megapixel camera that can capture 1080p video as well.
