One of the most affordable Samsung smartphones in the Galaxy A series is about to receive the highly anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

Unveiled back in October 2014, Samsung Galaxy A3 made its debut on the market in December. The smartphone ships with Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system right out of the box, but the South Korean company promised a Lollipop update would be available at some point.

Earlier this month, rumors on the promised Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Galaxy A series emerged once again pointing at a possible release in Q2.

According to SamMobile, the Galaxy A3 has already started receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop update. However, for the time being, the upgrade is only available in Russia.

We suspect Samsung has decided to soft launch Lollipop for Galaxy A3, which means the upgrade will only be available in Russia for a few weeks at least.

No TouchWiz UX for Galaxy A3 users

There are no other reports confirming the update is available in other countries, but those who want to flash Android 5.0.2 Lollipop on their Galaxy A3 devices can do so manually.

If you decide to do so, then keep in mind that the update will not bring the latest version of TouchWiz UI, which is now available in Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge flagships.

This means that Samsung has no intention to offer the new TouchWiz to other Galaxy smartphones that were launched on the market before its Galaxy S6 flagship.

Samsung Galaxy S5 has already been updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop, but it still doesn’t feature the latest version of TouchWiz. The same goes for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which won’t be getting the new and improved TouchWiz UX.

That being said, we expect Samsung to continue to roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop to other Galaxy A smartphones in the coming months, so stay tuned for more info on the matter.
