Samsung ATIV S Neo is the next smartphone to receive Windows Phone 8.1 update at AT&T. The US-based carrier has yet to make the update available for the HTC 8X, so those who opted for Samsung’s mid-ranged handset seem to be in luck now.

It’s taken a lot of time for Microsoft to bring the Windows Phone 8.1 update to smartphones that aren’t Nokia branded and even more time to those that are available through carriers.

The HTC 8X is a pure example that everything can go well when it comes to major OS updates. After promising to bring it to Verizon 8X, HTC was forced to admit that they have been hit with one or more major issues and have to delay it.

Luckily, Samsung’s engineers have been more capable in tweaking Windows Phone 8.1 for the ATIV S Neo and those who own the smartphone can now download the update.

According to AT&T, your Samsung ATIV S Neo’s battery should have at least 50% energy. Aside from that, there’s nothing really required just that you might be able to download it faster via Wi-Fi network.

In order to manually check if the update is available for your phone, simply head over to Settings / Phone update, and if Windows Phone 8.1 is available you will be prompted to download it.

For those still out of the loop, here are some of the most important changes and improvements that you will get once Windows Phone 8.1 is installed on your Samsung ATIV S Neo.

Cortana, Action Center and customizable Live Tiles are among the new features in Windows Phone 8.1

First of all, you will get Cortana, Microsoft’s digital assistant, which can help users set reminders by people and/or location. You can even chitchat with Cortana or ask her for sports predictions.

But Cortana is not all you can get with the Windows Phone 8.1. Lots of personalization features have been implemented as well, such as the option to have Live Tiles with multiple sizes and color options that will allow you to pin apps, people and music directly to the Start Screen.

Word Flow keyboard is another major improvement that comes with Windows Phone 8.1. The latest version of the application learns user’s phrases and features shape writing integrated within it, so you won’t need a dedicated app.

The Action Center for filtering and managing notifications, as well as quick action are among the new features included in Windows Phone 8.1, along with a new suite of device and data management tools.
