HMD Global’s Nokia 9 flagship is perhaps one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2018, but it’s fair to say that very little is actually known about the device. However, if a new image is accurate, the first glimpse at the device may have just appeared online.


Assuming that the image does depict the Nokia 9, it’s fair to say that the brand's next flagship will sport one of the most unique looks in recent history. This is due to the ridiculous camera setup present on the rear which utilizes a total of six cut-outs, five of which follow a hexagonal-like layout, and another one that sits in the center. In terms of what each one is used for, it seems as though the bottom-left and bottom-right cut-outs will be home to Zeiss-branded camera sensors, as will the one in the center. This will then seemingly be coupled with an LED flash that sits in the top-right area. However, it remains unclear what the top and bottom cut-outs represent. In any case, though, the unique layout does coincide with previous information that stated HMD Global had taken a “high risk” with the camera setup.

Moving on to other aspects of the design, the Nokia device in question appears to make use of a regular glass panel on the rear. However, there are a couple of design details worth taking note of. First of all, the Android One branding towards the bottom of the panel confirms once again that the smartphone will ship with Android 9 Pie straight out of the box. Secondly, the lack of a rear-facing fingerprint scanner is important too. After all, previous leaks have suggested that the Nokia 9 would ship with an in-display sensor.

Before getting too excited, it’s worth taking this leak with a grain of salt – the image in question is of a very low quality and could potentially be fan-made. However, it does coincide with previous Nokia 9 leaks. Additionally, it’s worth noting that the original source has deleted the image, which could suggest there is some truth behind the render. Until new information appears, though, the accuracy of the leak will remain to be seen.
