Chinese company Oppo has finally taken the wraps off its newest flagship smartphones, the R9 and R9 Plus. Both will be available for purchase in China on April 12 for $430 and $510, respectively.

Although Oppo hasn’t announced anything yet, there’s a high chance that an international version of these devices will be released via Oppomart as well, but we expect them to be slightly more expensive.
Oppo R9 and R9 Plus feature full-metal body design and ship with Color OS 3.0 onboard. The former is only 6.6mm slim while the latter is slightly thicker at 7.4mm.
Powerful chipsets inside, but no Quad HD displays The most obvious difference between the two smartphones is the size of the display. Oppo R9 sports a 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution whereas the R9 Plus comes with a slightly larger 6-inch display with similar resolution.
On the inside, the R9 is equipped with a 2GHz MediaTek Helio P10 processor while the R9 Plus is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor. Both devices pack 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory.
Oppo R9 Plus comes in a 128GB version as well, but it will cost more than the 64GB model. There’s no mention of microSD card slot, so we must assume it doesn’t come with one.
On the back, both Oppo handsets feature 16-megapixel cameras with Sony IMX298 sensor, f/2.0, phase-detection autofocus, LED flash and 4K video recording. On the front, the R9 includes a 13-megapixel secondary camera, but the R9 Plus sports an impressive 16-megapixel photo snapper.
Last but not least, Oppo R9 is powered by a 2,850 mAh battery while the R9 Plus drains energy from a much larger 4,120 mAh battery. Both feature Oppo’s VOOC charging technology, which should charge 7 percent of the battery in just 30 minutes. Also, the charger is protected from overheating.
