Dolby is a leader in creating spectacular sight and sound experiences, and we are excited to partner with them to further our innovation and global growth,” said Adler Feng, Director of Oppo IP Department as he signed a partnership that will encompass HE-AAC and JPEG-HDR.

High-Efficiency Advanced Audio Coding is optimized for low-bitrate applications and especially streaming. HE-AAC is used by Netflix, Amazon Video, Google Play, Pandora and others.

JPEG-HDR is a Dolby format and is a backwards compatible way to store High Dynamic Range images. The image is tone-mapped to SDR (which is what old JPEG decoders will see), but the file includes additional info that allows a 12-bit per channel image to be displayed.

“This partnership will enable us to create more remarkable smartphones with exciting technological innovations and spectacular user experiences,” said Adler Feng, Director of OPPO IP Department.
