The ‘Flagship Killer’ tagline has been attached to OnePlus smartphones ever since the launch of the original way back in 2014. But following the introduction of the company’s most expensive smartphone ever, one rival brand made the most of the situation.

After hearing about the OnePlus 7 Pro, Xiaomi VP Manu Jain and sub-brand Redmi took to Twitter earlier today to congratulate OnePlus on its latest flagship device. But in an apparent dig at both the company’s ‘Flagship Killer’ tagline and the OnePlus 7 Pro’s high price tag, both tweets included an image which teased the upcoming launch of Redmi’s own “Flagship Killer 2.0.”

Adding further fuel to the fire, Xiaomi also published a brief post on its official forums that confirmed the company’s understanding of the fact that “not everyone can afford a flagship” and contained the following message.

After “hearing” about the OnePlus 7 Pro, Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi took to Twitter yesterday evening to congratulate OnePlus on its latest flagship device. But in an apparent dig at the company’s ‘Flagship Killer’ tagline and the OnePlus 7 Pro’s high price tag, the company ended the tweet by revealing that its own “Flagship Killer 2.0” would be coming soon.
Xiaomi hasn’t yet revealed much about the upcoming Redmi K20 flagship, but the tweets themselves do point towards the presence of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 on the inside. Rumor has it the smartphone will also arrive equipped with a 48-megapixel rear camera and a pop-up selfie camera, just like the OnePlus 7 Pro.

The Redmi K20’s price hasn’t been revealed yet but it’ll presumably cost significantly less than OnePlus’ device. Also, on a related note, it’s possible the Redmi K20 will be rebranded as the Pocophone F2 in certain markets.
