The OnePlus One was one of first phones to be launched on the market with CynogenMod on top.

However, the partnership between the two didn't last long, as Cyanogen went on to sign an exclusive partnership with Indian device maker, Micromax, who from now on will be the sole beneficiary of the custom ROM.

OnePlus has been rumored to be working on a successor for its initial smartphone, which will apparently be called OnePlus 2.

The company has said it is already hard at work prepping its own custom ROM and the alpha build for their non-Cyanogen endeavor was launched earlier this month.

OnePlus has a surprise for you in a few weeks

Now OnePlus announces it will roll out the custom ROM on February 12. The startup used the periodic table, earlier this week, which was a little puzzling, but now we know why that was the case.

OnePlus One’s upcoming custom ROM will be called OxygenOS. The company promises that the new ROM will be open, customizable and free of bloat and other unnecessary features and will provide a “bold, powerful, straight-forward experience.”

Last month, OnePlus announced the development of its own ROM, while inviting fans to help name the new OS.

It seems OnePlus has picked the “Oxygen” moniker to bear its banner. The lucky person who came up with the name will probably be flown in Shenzhen, China, where he/she will meet the OnePlus team. The winner will also be awarded a 64GB Sandstone Black OnePlus One.

Oxygen does indeed seem to be a good name choice for a custom ROM that wants to be light, open and completely devoid of unnecessary stuff.

So if you’re curious to see what OnePlus has in store for us, check the February 12 date in your calendar and be sure to remember to tune in for the big event to get your breath of fresh air.
