Since the Nokia Lumia 930 will offer built-in support for Qi wireless charging, Nokia has decided to bundle the phone with a free wireless charging pad, according to a report published on Saturday. Nokia also offered built-in support for Qi wireless charging with the Nokia Lumia 920. The manufacturer made it an option with other models like the Nokia Lumia 925, Nokia Lumia 1020 and Nokia Lumia 720. Owners of those three handsets have to switch to a special back cover with Qi embedded, in order for their phone to recharge wirelessly.

If true, this move will no doubt help Qi's push to become the wireless standard globally. Still, the technology faces some competition, even inside Nokia. The Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet, an AT&T exclusive in the U.S., offers built-in wireless charging from Qi competitor PMA.

Whether support for wireless charging is built-in to a handset, or requires a special back cover to be snapped in, a wireless charging pad is required to juice up the battery on the phone. If Nokia does bundle such a pad for free with the Nokia Lumia 930, it could end up being a big move toward wider acceptance of wireless charging in the U.S.
