Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 was announced back in February and represents the chip maker’s first octa-core SoC with integrated Cat.4 4G LTE.

The chip is manufactured using a 28nm process and is made up by four 1.7GHz ARM Cortex A53 cores plus four 1GHz Cortex A53 cores working in concert with Adreno 405 GPU.

Even if the chip per se is not an extreme power house, it will offer levels of performance similar to the 32-bit Snapdragon 805, while maintaining energy consumption as low as possible.

So in the first months of 2015, we’re probably going to be confronted with an avalanche of flagship products bundling this particular architecture, coming from almost every major device manufacturer out there.

Actually, the flood has already begun, as a few device makers have announced handsets taking advantage of this particular SoC.

However, we’re making a reference to the early part of 2015 because rumor has it that Qualcomm is facing some design issues while the chip is concerned, which might affect overall availability.

But sooner or later, the Snapdragon 615 will make it out in the wild. Until that happens, we’re taking the opportunity to remind you of the handsets that have been announced or rumored to enjoy the benefits of this particular platform.

Micromax Yureka

This handset is special because it was launched as the first 64-bit Cyanogen-based device. It dons a 5.5-inch 720p display and takes advantage of the chip mentioned above, fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card).

Yureka is powered by CyanogenMod 11 which is based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

The handset is actually quite cheap and will go on sale for the affordable price of $142 / €115.

Vivo X5 Max

This particular handset is another special case. It has been dubbed the world’s thinnest handset ever to date, coming in at just 4.75mm / 0.18 inches.

The X5 is equipped with a 5.5-inch 1080 super AMOLED display and takes advantage of an octa-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chip clocked at 1.7GHz and fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB).

The handset is supposed to go on sale in China starting December 22 for $485 / €392 a pop, but we’re a little bit skeptic this will happen as scheduled.

Samsung Galaxy A7

This smartphone is a possible candidate to getting the Snapdragon 615. Samsung already officially introduced the A3 and A5, but the Galaxy A7 should be the premium model in the lineup.

The handset is expected to arrive with a 5.5-inch display with full HD resolution, but the rumor mill can’t agree whether the device will be powered by Snapdragon 615 or by an Exynos 5433 chipset.

In all possibility, Sammy might be prepping two variants of the same smartphone, but at this point we can’t tell you whether this is the case or not.

Archos 50 Diamond

Archos is a low-cost device manufacturer from France, struggling to keep up with the competition. And the company might soon be rolling out one of the cheapest handsets enjoying the architecture.

We’re talking about the Archos 50 Diamond which should make it out on the market for about €200 / $250.

The handset will sport a decent 5-inch IPS LCD touchscreen coming with support for full HD (1080p) resolution. On the back the 50 Diamond promises to pack a 16MP snapper complete with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

It will also have dual-SIM connectivity and 4G LTE.

Oppo R5

The Oppo R5 was the handset previously bearing the title of world’s thinnest smartphone, before the Vivo X5 Max came along.

The R5 boasts a 6.3mm / 0.24 inches profile and takes advantage of a 5.5-inch AMOLED display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and 432ppi.

The handset has 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, but lacks microSD card for memory expansion. Oppo R5 also has an impressive camera that sports a 13MP Sony Exmor IMX214 sensor camera with f/2.0 aperture and 4K video recording

The handset will be marketed with a price tag above average, so be prepared to spend around $500 / €390 for it.

HTC Desire 820

The Desire 820 is a 5.5-inch model with 720p display and an enhanced 13MP camera that features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

Moreover, everything onboard is fitted with 2GB of RA inside, plus 16GB of storage which luckily can be expanded via microSD card.

The HTC Desire 820 also has an 8MP front-facing camera, which is a lot better than what your usual handset offers these days (revolves around 5MP).

The device sells for around $350 / €286.

Coolpad GreatGod F2

This is another budget-oriented smartphone coming out of a relatively obscure Chinese brand. The smartphone has a 5.5-inch display with 1280 x 768 resolution.

The device seems quite reminiscent of what Meizu would put out, a sign that Chinese smartphone manufacturers have started copying each other, not only international brands.

The GreatGod has 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 13MP rear camera and can be yours for around $163 / €133. There’s also a MediaTek-powered version.
