Windows 10 Mobile is finally available for devices running Windows Phone, and although that’s some pretty exciting news for those who survived the long wait for the new OS, it’s not all just milk and honey. And it’s all because not everyone is getting the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile.

A short analysis put together by WMMania.cz shows that nearly 40 percent of Windows Phone devices are left behind and won’t receive the new Windows 10 Mobile, which could clearly lead to more frustration in the community, especially given the super long wait.
The most popular Windows Phone devices that aren’t getting the upgrade are Lumia 520 (which was the best-selling handset powered by WP ever released), Lumia 630, and Lumia 625. Overall, models that are being left behind account for nearly 40 percent of the entire Windows phone lineup.
These figures are provided by AdDuplex, and although they are clearly estimates, they do show that Microsoft’s decision not to upgrade everyone to Windows 10 Mobile impacts quite a lot of devices.
Just stick with the Windows Insider program The list of devices getting Windows 10 Mobile includes the following models: Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 430, 435, BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q, and MCJ Madosma Q501, so if your phone is not on the list, the chances are that you have no other option than to register for the Insider program.
That’s right, if you continue running Windows 10 Mobile preview builds, your device, even if not supported by the “final” version of the OS, can still enjoy the latest features added in this upgrade.
Microsoft motivates its decision to deliver the Windows 10 only to some devices by pointing to the hardware capabilities of the models left behind.
“As Windows 10 delivers significant new innovations, many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience. Our goal is to only offer the Windows 10 upgrade to devices that we are confident can continue to deliver a good customer experience,” it says.
