Motorola Moto X Play Goes on Sale in Canada for $300

Unveiled earlier this month, the Moto X Play is already available for pre-order in the UK and other European countries, but the smartphone has been barred from the US.

According to Motorola, the Moto X Play will not make it to United States, though rumor has it the smartphone will eventually be released in the country through Verizon Wireless, but under a different name: DROID Maxx 2.

On the other hand, customers in Canada won't have the same issue since Motorola confirmed the Moto X Play would be launched in this country as early as this month.

True to its promise, the Moto X Play has been made available for purchase in Canada, so customers can now get it for only $300 outright via Videotron and SaskTel carriers.

In addition, the smartphone is also available on Koodo, Telus and Bell, so there are plenty of options for those who really want Motorola's latest mid-range Android smartphone.

There's also the option to buy the Motorola Moto X Play for only $38 with a new 2-year agreement and the usual monthly installments.

Those interested in acquiring the device should know the Moto X Play is available in both black and white color options. Moreover, the phone features replaceable flip shells and Moto Maker customization.

It comes bundled with Motorola TurboPower 25 Charger

Spec-wise, Motorola Moto X Play comes equipped with a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, an Adreno 405 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

In addition, the smartphone packs either 16GB or 32GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

The Moto X Play sports a large 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating.

It's also worth mentioning that phone is IP52 certified (water repellant nano-coating) and ships with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box.

Moto phones are great at hardware. I'm user of Moto G (1st Gen) since it got launched in India.

Can you share when Moto X Play will get launched in India and what will be aspect-ed price in INR?

Last month, Motorola launched the critically acclaimed Moto G (3rd Gen) in India and the company is reportedly planning to roll out a new line of flagship Moto X series in a few weeks.

The company's India head, Amit Boni, confirmed during an interview BGR India that Motorola will launch the new Moto X smartphone in September. He was asked if the company will release both the mid-range Play and marquee Style series in India, but he declined to disclose the details.

We believe Motorola might follow the footsteps of rival Samsung, who offers numerous smartphones of different price range, which is probably why the South Korean company is the top smartphone maker in India and globally as well.

Motorola can replicate the similar sales strategy by placing Moto X Play in the upper mid-range sector (Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000) and the more superior Moto X Style in the top-end category (Rs 30,000 plus), thus, the company would have a complete phone portfolio covering budget (Moto E 2nd Gen: rs 5,999) to high-end devices.

For the uninitiated, both Moto X Style and Moto X Play were originally unveiled last month in the US and now with the announcement, both the devices may hit stores in India next month.

Moto X Style (aka Pure Edition in US):

Moto X Style is top-end phone among the two. It sports 5.7-inch QHD (2560x1440p) display and runs on the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS backed by 3GB RAM, 16GB/32GB/64GB internal storage and a 3000 mAh battery.

It also boasts Motorola's custom mobile computing system integrated with 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 (Hexa-core) CPU (MSM8992), natural language processor and contextual computing processor.

    Moto X Play:

This is Motorola's mid-range phone, but comes with a massive 3630 mAh battery that can run the phone for close to 48 hours under mixed usage.

Moto X Play will house Motorola Mobile Computing System with the same natural language processor and contextual computing processor, but it is underpowered as compared to Moto X Style. It features a 1.7GHz QualcommSnapdragon 615 Octa-core chipset.
