Motorola and Verizon are set to unveil two new Droid smartphones — Droid Turbo 2 and Droid Maxx 2 — by the end of this month. The brand Droid remains the result of a partnership between Verizon and Motorola, and is intended to provide exclusive smartphones to the carrier. To turn up the heat before launch, both companies are claiming that the two devices will be equipped with so-called “shatterproof” displays.

A leaked print advertisement for the devices shows that the Turbo 2 was initially pitched as the Moto X Force with the codename Bounce, which in retrospect seems like a reference to its shatterproof display technology. The latest leak also confirms Verizon will be marketing the display technology heavily, and will also run discount offers in exchange of used and cracked screen phones for up to $300 when buying the Droid Turbo 2 or Maxx 2.
Motorola has not yet revealed the technology behind the shatterproof display. We believe it’s basically Verizon’s rendition of the P-OLED display panel, meaning that it’s strong enough to survive shock. We’re sure to soon see critics conducting high-level drop tests. The leaked ad also suggests users will also get the Moto Maker option with both the devices, meaning they’ll be able to personalize the physical design.

The Droid Maxx 2 is the Moto X Play for the US market, although Motorola is listing a 48-hour battery life and back panels in different colors, whereas the Moto X Play provides just 24 hours of battery backup. It seems Motorola is also going to throw in some cool offers. Going by the ad, Motorola will let customers “refresh” their device’s design for free once during the ownership period, but that offer will only be limited to those who go for the 64GB variant.
Previous leaks about the Droid Turbo 2 suggested that it might come with a 5.43-inch QHD display, a Snapdragon 810 chipset, 3GB RAM, 32GB/64GB storage, a 21MP rear camera, and a 5MP front-facing camera, with a 3,760mAh battery that supports wireless charging. There is no confirmation regarding pricing for both the devices, but we assume the Droid Turbo 2 will fall between $600 to $700, while the Droid Maxx 2 may end up in the $400 to $500 range.
