Motorola might not make the flagship phones that people crave, but it excels in a different segment: making the best affordable phones out there with the Moto G series.

Its new Moto G7 family has now leaked out in detail and we know that there will be four different Moto G7 phones:

  • Moto G7
  • Moto G7 Play
  • Moto G7 Plus
  • Moto G7 Power

What is special about each one of them and how do they differ?

Let's take a closer look.

Moto G7

The Moto G7 has leaked out extensively and it is a phone with a 6-inch display that has the trendy teardrop notch and a chin (where Motorola even managed to squeeze their own logo somehow).

Under the hood, expectations are that the Moto G7 will be powered by the Snapdragon 660 mid-range chip along with 4GB of RAM. The phone is said to come with 64GB of on-board storage, and a 3,500mAh battery.

On the back, you'd find a dual camera array with a 16+5MP shooters, while up front, the phone is said to have a 12MP selfie camera.

Moto G7 Play

The Moto G6 Play was one of the phones with the longest-lasting battery in 2018 in our testing, scoring nearly 12 hours on our screen test, while most flagships average around 9 hours, and it was a two-day experience for most people. And a big part of that achievement was due to the large, 4,000mAh battery inside the G6 Play.

Now, though, Motorola is planning to launch the new Moto G7 Play with a smaller battery, a 2,820mAh cell. The reason for this is most likely cost-cutting as it seems that the G7 Play will be a very affordable model and there will be another G7 phone with a big battery to act as the true successor of the G6 Play.

What else is new here? While we don't know the screen size, we know that the display will have a notch. Under the hood, the mid-range Snapdragon 632 chip is expected to power the show, a step up from the Snapdragon 400 chip used in the predecessor. The G7 Play is also expected to have a fingerprint on its back, a headphone jack, it will charge via a USB-C port and there will be a single rear camera.

Moto G7 Plus

The Moto G7 Plus is expected to be the most powerful of the new G7 series. Design-wise, it's expected to look much like a bigger Moto G7, with the same teardrop notch, chin and the Motorola branding inside the chin. The camera on the back is a dual one, which should support portrait mode.

While the hardware is not yet known, expectations point to a new Snapdragon 7xx series chip inside it.

Moto G7 Power

Part of the reason why the Moto G7 Play is expected to have a rather small battery might be in this phone: the Moto G7 Power, where the "power" part refers to a gigantic, 5,000mAh battery cell, but not so much performance.

This is rumored to still remain a budget phone: the list of specs includes the Snapdragon 632 chip, the same one as on the lower-end G7 Play and a far-cry from the flagship-grade Snapdragon 8xx chips.

The G7 Power is also expected in various different models that will have anywhere from 2GB to 6GB of RAM, while on-board storage will vary between 32GB and 64GB.
