Apple doesn't break down its sales reports, so there is no way to know exactly how many iPhone 5c units it has sold since the phone's inception. There are reports for up to three million pieces still sloshing in the inventory system, which, if true, would put the iPhone 5c in Apple's not-so-successful undertakings category.

Analysts are expecting the "mother lode" of upgrade cycles this year from Apple, with two big-screen iPhones rumored for release, which puts the fate of the 5c under question. Until that time, though, Apple might be gearing up to clean as many of its colorful plastic phones, as possible. A leaked document from the German carrier O2, reveals that Cupertino plans to unveil an 8 GB version of the iPhone 5c on March 18th. This one will likely be the cheapest new iPhone you can buy, so it might spur the allegedly flagging sales of Apple's 5c experiment.

Alternatively, the 8-gigger might be an exclusive for some carriers, but it's Apple we are talking about, so this is highly unlikely to happen. In any case, there is no point in speculating, as March 18th is just around the corner. If this document below holds water, it will be interesting to see the end pricing of an eventual 8 GB iPhone 5c, given that the 16 GB version can be had straight from Apple for the steep $549, without a contract subsidy.
