Microsoft Not Planning Internet Explorer Versions for iOS and Android

Microsoft has been showing a lot of love to iOS and Android in recent months, but it appears that some of the products that Redmond is currently building will remain exclusively available to Windows users for a long time.

This is the case of Internet Explorer, the company’s in-house browser that is now available on both Windows and Windows Phone.

In an AMA session on Reddit, the IE team explains that there are no plans to bring Internet Explorer on iOS and Android and that everybody’s working to make the browser better on Windows platforms.

“Right now, we're focused on building a great mobile browser for Windows Phone and have made some great progress lately. So, no current plans for Android/iOS. We are committed to improving our own engine. We love the fact that the web was built on multiple competing (yet interoperable) platforms and believe that this is how it is going to move forward into the future!” the team notes.

Of course, bringing Internet Explorer on other platforms could help Microsoft fight the negative perception that’s affecting adoption of the app these days, but the company is still trying to keep some goodies exclusive for its users.

Internet Explorer is the default browser in Windows and Windows Phone, and according to rumors, the app could be bumped to version 12 with the debut of the new Windows 9 operating system scheduled to take place in April 2015.
