Microsoft launches app to convince Android users to switch to Windows Phone

Microsoft really wants some of you Android users to make the leap to Windows Phone.

A new Microsoft app has hit the Google Play Store called AppComparison, and you can't fault it for optimism.

"Are you considering changing your Android device to Windows Phone?" asks the app blurb. We'll leave you to answer that for yourself.

You've probably gathered from the app name, but AppComparison aims to dispel a common criticism of Windows Phone that it lacks apps in comparison to Android and iOS.

To that end, App Comparison will take a rummage through your current Android app collection and show you which ones are also available on Windows Phone - or as the latest version is called, due to its inherently desk top roots, Windows 10 Mobile.

The truth is, unfortunately, that there are plenty of popular apps that aren't available on Microsoft's mobile platform. In these cases, AppComparison will show you alternative apps that fulfil the same basic function.

This means you'll get a whole bunch of alternatives to all those brilliant Google apps that don't exist in Windows Phone form. For Google Maps, try Here Maps; for Google Drive, try OneDrive, to name but two.

It's evidently part of a push for Microsoft's new Windows 10 Mobile hardware, the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, which were made available for pre-order last week.
