Microsoft Edge is becoming a really terrific browser with all the work that the company is doing for this project on both PCs and smartphones, but several of the new features that will be offered to users will actually arrive after the launch of Windows 10 on both platforms.

In a post on Twitter, Microsoft Edge Program Manager Ade Bateman says that background downloading is one of the features that the company is working on for Windows 10 Mobile, but just like extension support, it won't be available when the operating system becomes available.

Earlier this year, support for background downloads was uncertain and Microsoft said that it wasn't planning such a feature for Windows 10 Mobile, but because of the feedback it received lately, the company appears to have changed its mind.

As far as the release date goes, Windows 10 Mobile is expected to launch in the fall of 2015, and some say that it's either September or October.

But whichever month is targeted for the release, it could take longer than expected to get the final version of Windows 10 on your Windows Phone device because Microsoft is adopting a staggered release, so some phone models might actually receive it later this year.
Extension support also coming

Another feature that won't be ready when Windows 10 launches this year is extension support. Microsoft demonstrated this option earlier this year, showing that Edge browser can run Google Chrome extensions with small changes to the original code.

This feature will arrive on both PCs and smartphones, the company confirmed, but once again, it won't be ready when Windows 10 is ready.

And yet, things could be slightly different in this case because Microsoft said that extension support won't be released when Windows 10 for PCs launches, but only afterwards, which means that for mobile users, this feature could be available at launch.
