A few days ago Microsoft announced plans to launch two Windows 10 Mobile Editions, but the company did not share any details on release timeframes.

Even though we initially thought Windows 10 would arrive on phones along with the PC version, Joe Belfiore elaborated more on the subject and confirmed the mobile version of the platform would come after Windows 10 for PC.

Since Windows 10 is set to arrive on PC this summer, it would make sense for Microsoft to release the mobile version sometime in fall.

Today, along with the release of the third Windows 10 Mobile build for Windows Insiders, Microsoft offered more details on the launch of the final version of the platform.

According to the company, “for phones, Windows 10 will arrive later this year – both on new devices and also upgrades for existing Windows Phone 8.1 devices. Even though Windows 10 will be arriving for phones later than it does for PCs, the underlying OS code is still the same.”

Microsoft has a pretty tight schedule this year

Until then though, Windows Insiders will be able to continue to test some of the new features and improvements that Microsoft plans to include inside Windows 10 Mobile OS.

Microsoft also highlighted its busy schedule for this year, especially due to the fact that Windows 10 will be launched on a wide range of devices not just PC and mobile phones.

“Windows 10 will support the broadest device family ever – from PCs, tablets and 2-in-1s to phones to Xbox and the Internet of Things. To enable this, we work to specifically tailor Windows 10 to these device types. And what you’re seeing with phone builds today is that work in progress to tailor Windows 10 to be great on phones.”

In the same piece of news, Microsoft is also expected to launch new flagship devices this year, but they won't be available until Windows 10 Mobile gets released.
