Microsoft is working to make live tiles a more important part of its operating systems, so Windows 10 build 10074 comes with new 3D effects in the Start menu and Start screen in an attempt to improve the UI and the way you interact with tiles on a PC.

But it turns out that Microsoft isn’t planning to stop here, and the company is now working to introduce interactive live tiles that were first spotted last year and that could arrive not only on Windows 10 but also on the phone version of the operating system.

Interactive live tiles are supposed to enable users to perform a number of actions without actually launching the apps, and using the tiles directly. For instance, you could be allowed to play and pause music using the live tile of your music app, so there’s no need to first launch the app and then play and pause content.

The new concept, which was first demoed by Microsoft Research last year, is based on flyout tiles available on McLaren, a project that never got to see daylight, but whose features are slowly implemented in other products.

Interactive live tiles already being developed

WMPU came across a slide presented by Microsoft at BUILD 2015 that confirms that the company is now developing interactive live tiles for its modern platform, but no other specifics are available for now.

Basically, they should be available on all devices running Windows 10 and they could be offered as an option in case the 3D live tiles are included too. This way, Microsoft could provide users with more customization options and allow them to choose between multiple live tile modes, no matter the device they are using.

Windows 10 is projected to see daylight in the coming months, so more information on these interactive live tiles is expected to be disclosed as work on the new operating system advances.
