Two weeks after providing an early glimpse at next year’s OnePlus 8, tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer is back with a new set of renders that arrive courtesy of 91Mobiles. This time, though, the device being showcased is the premium OnePlus 8 Pro.

OnePlus 8 Pro ditches the pop-out camera module and all-screen look

OnePlus received quite a bit of praise this year upon the arrival of the OnePlus 7 Pro due to the all-screen design it implemented on the flagship. But the pop-out camera, on the contrary, was criticised by some and likely proved quite costly, especially for a company that already operates on slim margins. That's likely why it's planning to ditch the unique setup on next year's OnePlus 8 Pro in favor of a punch-hole display that closely resembles the Infinity-O panel found on Samsung's Galaxy S10.

As per usual, accompanying the curved edge, 90Hz Fluid AMOLED display are extremely thin side bezels and what appears to be uniform top and bottom implementations. Also worth pointing out is the fact the display now measures in a 6.65-inches rather than 6.67-inches, although the aspect ratio does appear to have been modified slightly to make the phone taller but not as wide. Specifically, the OnePlus 8 Pro's dimensions sit at 165.3 x 74.4 x 8.8mm whereas the OnePlus 7T Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro's are 162.6 x 75.9 x 8.8mm.

Moving over to the rear, OnePlus has seemingly chosen to retain the vertical camera layout found on the 7T Pro rather than the circular one present on the OnePlus 7T. This time around, however, the overall size of the bump is slightly larger and, more importantly, it's accompanied by a fourth Time-of-Flight sensor which can be used for AR content and portrait photography. The upgrade means the OnePlus 8 Pro will offer all of the camera capabilities included on the likes of the Galaxy Note 10+ and Huawei P30 Pro.


The setup's specifications are yet to leak but the expectation is that OnePlus is going to upgrade the individual sensors. Regardless, it'll be coupled with an LED flash and a laser autofocus system much like the one found on the OnePlus 7T Pro.

Snapdragon 865, wireless charging, support for 5G networks

The OnePlus 8 Pro's physical setup is completed by an Alert Slider and power key up the right side, a volume rocker along the left, and a speaker paired with a USB-C port on the bottom. The latter should enable the company's Warp Charge 30T fast charging technology which itself is probably going to be paired with a large battery and wireless charging support. The OnePlus 7T Pro boasts a 4,085mAh cell so that ought to be the minimum OnePlus 8 Pro capacity.

Helping further improve battery life will undoubtedly be Qualcomm's next-generation Snapdragon 865 which is going to offer both efficiency and speed improvements. A minimum of 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage may accompany this although more impressive configurations are likely.


Android 10 paired with the latest version of Oxygen OS is expected to round out the entire flagship package. Likewise, support for 5G networks could arrive as standard although this isn't guaranteed at this stage. After all, OnePlus has openly admitted that the lack of networks in developing markets such as India is still a big issue that push it to offer 5G as an optional upgrade.

OnePlus 8 Pro release date and availability

OnePlus typically announces its first flagships of the year in May but these early OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro leaks could mean the company is going to adopt a new strategy in 2020 that'll see the flagships arrive during the first quarter. This coincides with the debut of Samsung, LG, and Huawei's first flagships of the year and could help OnePlus steal some of their sales.

Whenever sales do commence, rumors indicate the OnePlus 8 Pro will become available on Verizon at launch in addition to T-Mobile which, by then. should have merged with Sprint. This move would give the company access to about two thirds of the American market, something that'll undoubtedly boost sales significantly.
