After a relatively promising start back when the Apple Watch wasn’t a thing, Google’s Android Wear platform had serious trouble finding, well, a purpose and a large enough target audience.

Recently rebranded as Wear OS, this runs on a wide range of stylish wearable devices from traditional fashion brands, but fewer and fewer products manufactured by top-tier tech companies.

One such outfit is reportedly looking to get back in the game at last, prepping an October 4 announcement for a gadget previously rumored to be dubbed the Watch Timepiece or Watch Libre.

Ultimately, we’re told to expect an LG Watch W7 alongside the oft-leaked V40 ThinQ smartphone on stage at a press event next week, and the tipster revealing the new name is almost never wrong about this kind of stuff.

Unfortunately, mobile leaking legend Evan Blass has no fresh info to share in regards to the product’s specs and features, instead referring to a report from way back in April. If those details are still accurate, the LG Watch W7 doesn’t look all that bad on paper... save for one essential feature.

Inside sources claimed five months ago that the Wear OS watch packed an ancient Snapdragon 2100 processor, which may have been acceptable back then, but would be outright embarrassing right now.

The world’s first Snapdragon Wear 3100-powered timepiece has already been (vaguely) unveiled, and if LG wants to be treated seriously, it needs to adopt Qualcomm’s energy-efficient SoC right away.

Again, the rest of the rumored features are pretty nice, including a 360 x 360 1.2-inch LCD screen, water-resistant stainless steel body, 240 mAh battery, 768MB RAM, 4GB internal storage space, and “hybrid” functionality combining the best of the analog and digital worlds.
