Well, well, well, LG may be indeed pulling a Sony this year, releasing a V40, its fourth flagship for the year, after the V30S, G7, and V35 ThinQ. Korean media is abuzz with the specs and launch plans of the phone today, tipping a mid-September announcement, and early October release. What does that mean? Well, this time around, LG will keep its distance from Samsung's Note 9, and won't announce the V40 at the IFA expo at the end of August, like it did with the V30 last year.

It will also keep its distance from Apple, claims the report, whose iPhone 9 2018 (the cheapest model) will be launched in mid- to late October, after the expensive iPhone X (2018) and X Plus, just as other rumors predicted. Apparently, LG will try to fit right between the two juggernauts with a dedicated announcement event, and a release that is equidistant from its main competitors, so as not to drown the V40 in the resulting media noise.

With the specs that the Koreans just tipped, we doubt that the V40 will be overshadowed, though. The company is again said to equip the phone with a triple camera on the back - 20MP, 16MP and 13MP lens - and might be the only phone at the time to carry both "super wide-angle" and "super telephoto" lenses on it. Does that mean that we might see 3x optical zoom, like on the P20 Pro? Remains to be heard.

The two front cameras will be used for 3D face-scanning, like on the iPhone X, Oppo Find X, and Xiaomi Mi 8, which dovetails with the previous speculation that the V40 will sport 5 cameras in total. Last but not least, the rumored OLED display of the V40 is now said to occupy 90%+ of the front, for a stellar screen-to-body ratio, and, since the phone is also said to come with a notch, it will likely be very compact for its screen size. Sounds like a winning combo, and we pray for a larger battery to remedy the weakest point of the G7. Oh, tucked in this report is the third confirmation we hear that Apple will delay the launch of the 6.1" LCD iPhone a full month after the OLED models. Bummer.
