LG V20 and G5 will no longer receive Android updates and security patches
LG, just like many other smartphone companies, has adopted the same two flagships per year cycle. Also, as one of the major Android OEMs that agreed with Google's Android Enterprise Recommended program, LG must offer at least four security updates within one year of the phone's launch.
The same program recommends Android OEMs to provide flagships smartphones with security updates for at least two years. As such, it appears that LG has removed the G5 and V20 phones from the security updates page, XDA Developers reports.
Both phones were launched back in 2016, so it comes to no surprise that LG has decided to stop supporting them. Going forward, LG will offer security and OS updates for the G6 and G7 series, V30, V35, V40, CV series, LV series, LG Stylo (SF3), and Q series.
Of course, LG will decide if these updates will be released monthly, quarterly, or irregularly, depending on regions and carriers. As for those who still own the LG G5 or V20, we strongly recommend upgrading to a newer smartphone to keep getting software updates.
