2019 might be just around the corner, but it looks like LG isn't quite done with the smartphone releases for this year. There are indications that the Korean company is preparing to launch a new mid-range handset in the coming weeks.

The device in question is called the LG Q9. Rumors about its specs and a supposed hands-on image have been circulating since September. The live photo showed off a phone that was quite similar to the older Q6 and Q7 in terms of looks - a tall 18:9 display at the front encompassed by bezels that are considered thick by today's standards. However, the latest Q9 leak suggests that we're going to see something different.

This alleged press render of the Q9 shows a design that is almost identical to LG's high-end G7 ThinQ model - two super-slim side bezels, a slightly thicker "chin" at the bottom, and a notch that hosts the phone's earpiece, front camera, and various sensors at the top. In fact, the only observable difference between the two phones is that there is no dedicated Google Assistant button on the left side of the Q9.

Moving on to the LG Q9’s spec sheet, leaked information has previously indicated that Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 660 will be powering the smartphone. This will be coupled with 4GB of RAM and the option of either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. Regardless of the model chosen, though, this should be further expandable via microSD. Completing the setup will be a rather large 3,550mAh battery and, unfortunately, the outdated Android 8.1 Oreo. Keep in mind that this info is unofficial, and as such, should be taken with a grain of salt.

As of now, there’s still no news on when the Q9 will become official. However, if LG wants to capitalize on the traditionally stronger demand around the holiday season, the launch should come rather soon.
