LG’s smartphone naming convention is getting harder and harder to follow, as the G7 One and G7 Fit have recently seen daylight with inferior specs compared to the G7 ThinQ, the impressive V35 ThinQ is soon to be followed by an improved V40 ThinQ, with a mid-range Q9 also reportedly in the works already.

While the original Q8 is more than a year old, LG rolled out a 2018 edition just last month after unveiling the Q7 family back in May. That’s beyond confusing, but if a fairly reliable Slashleaks contributor is to be trusted, at least the LG Q9 is set to bring a vastly superior processor to the table.

We’re talking Qualcomm’s respectable upper mid-range Snapdragon 660, which already powers a number of popular non-flagship Androids, including the Nokia 7 Plus, Xiaomi Mi A2, and BlackBerry KEY2.

Both Korea’s LG Q8 (2018) and the Q7+ available stateside through T-Mobile offer significantly humbler Snapdragon 450 processing power, so naturally, we’re intrigued to see the Q9 hit stores at a presumably inexpensive price point.

Unfortunately, we can’t be certain LG has the US in its commercial release plans here, although Amazon’s Prime Exclusive Q6 is definitely due for an upgrade.

In addition to a Snapdragon 660 SoC, the LG Q9 is expected to offer 32 and 64GB storage options, paired with a flat 4GB RAM, while running Android 8.1 Oreo on the software side of things, and packing a decent 3,550 mAh battery. That would be considerably larger than the Q6, Q7, Q8, and Q8 (2018) cells, and obviously, an extra-wide 2:1 or so screen is most likely also on the cards.
