As we settle in 2018, the flagship smartphone cycle is yet to start. Two Android makers will kick off this year’s race, just as they’ve done so previously. Samsung and LG launch their respective flagship smartphones early in the year, hoping to get a good headstart before H2. It’s in this time period that these companies boost their lineups with a second flagship launch – LG’s V lineup and Samsung’s Note series. This year, once again LG’s under pressure for a good launch. Its G6, launched in 2017 was inadequate in hardware terms for flagships. A year prior, the G5 didn’t do well either. Will 2018 be the company’s magic year? Only time can tell but today we’ve got more details for the LG G7. Take a look below for more details.

LG Will Launch The Tentatively Dubbed ‘LG G7’ For South Koreans In April; Mass Production To Commence In March

Just a while back, we saw some interesting news surface for the LG G7. As mentioned above, the Korean tech giant’s not having a great time in the flagship smartphone market. To counter this, the Korean press reported some changes over at LG. According to them, the company will re-brand the smartphone, choosing to change both the name and nomenclature of its smartphone for H1 2018. However, today’s report mentions the G7 by name; so maybe there’s more to the matter than the company’s letting on.

Moving forward to today’s news, carrier reports suggest that the LG G7 will launch in March and release in April. Sources believe that the company’s playing it safe this time and not rushing into things, like it did with the G6. It makes us wonder whether the Snapdragon 845 is once again at the root of LG’s problems. After all, supply constraints forced the company to launch last year’s G6 with the Snapdragon 835.

According to a carrier official, “LG Electronics is not likely to release the G7 at MWC 2018. I heard that it is likely to be released in mid-March.” The company is deliberately ambiguous on the matter, stating that it’s ”exploring all angles for the G7’s release.” These reports suggest that it’s unlikely for the G7 to appear at this year’s Mobile World Congress scheduled at February’s end.

As far as specifications go, the LG G7 will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845, 6GB RAM, IP68 certification and front+rear dual cameras. For us, the 845’s appearance on the device is a big relief. After all, Samsung needs all the competition it can get. Thoughts? Let us know what you think in the comments section below and stay tuned. We’ll keep you updated on the latest.
