Mobile World Congress is one of the most prolific exhibitions for the smartphone industry, as many companies have decided to introduce their top tier products in the last couple of years at this trade fair.

The 2016 edition recently closed its gates, but not before the global mobile awards were announced during a series of ceremonies and live TV presentations through the week.
The ones that are of interest to us is “Best new mobile device at MWC 2016” and “Best smartphone 2015.” They have been awarded to smartphones launched by different companies, which are now competing for the best smartphone launched in the first half of the year: LG and Samsung.
According to GSMA, LG G5 was the best new mobile device at MWC 2016 and many consumers with agree that the semi-modular design and all those accessories announced by the South Korean company are the main reasons the flagship has been awarded this prize.
On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge has been awarded “Best smartphone 2015,” which isn't really a surprise since the competition did not come with something innovative last year.

ZTE is the only Chinese company to have received an award Other awards announced by GSMA includes: Best low cost smartphone (Xiaomi Redmi 2), Best mobile tablet (Microsoft Surface Pro 4), Best connected consumer electronic device (Samsung Gear S2), Best mobile music application (Soundcloud), and Best Mobile security or anti-fraud solution (Trustonic).
“In what was a remarkably wide field of more than 930 entrants, narrowed to 170 nominees, it is truly an outstanding achievement to have been selected by our esteemed judging panels. We thank all of our entrants, judges, sponsors and partners for supporting the 21st Glomo Awards,” said Michael O’Hara, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA.
