Japan-based Freetel launches Katana 01, a Windows 10 powered handset

A Japan-based manufacturer Freetel has introduced a budget-friendly Windows 10 Mobile handset dubbed as Katana 01. The handset is set to hit the retail shelves in the country from November 30th carrying a JPY 12,800 (about $104 US) price tag.

The handset is equipped with entry-level specifications, boasting a 4.5-inch display (480 pixel resolution) as well as a quad-core 1.1GHz processor — there’s no word about the model and make of the processor. There’s 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage coupled with a microSD card slot for expansion, a 5MP main camera for photos and videos and a 2MP front-facing camera. The device ships with a 1750 mAh battery to make sure it can offer users with a decent battery time.

The manufacturer has also listed Katana 02, the successor of the handset, as “coming soon”. It offers better specifications compared to Katana 01, including a 5-inch 720p display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, an 8MP camera and Windows 10 Mobile as its operating system. There’s no word on when it will hit retail in the region.
