Last week it was revealed that the Nokia X5, which is expected to be sold under the Nokia 5.1 Plus name globally, would be unveiled in China today. However, just hours before the event, HMD Global has taken to Weibo via the official Nokia account to announce that the launch has been postponed.

The exact reason behind the decision is unknown at this point in time, although the company does make mention of the venue, suggesting that some problems in the planning may have arisen. Unfortunately for consumers, however, it’s worth pointing out that the brand is yet to announce a new launch date for the smartphone, although the company is likely on the hunt for a new venue right now. After all, if the reception received by the Nokia X6 back in May is anything to go by, the Nokia X5 could easily prove to be one of the more popular devices available in the market upon launch.

For those unaware, the Nokia X5 is expected to boast a tall 5.86-inch display complete with a notch up top while, on the inside, the MediaTek Helio P60 is rumored to be included. This is then coupled with either 3GB, 4GB, or 6GB of RAM and the choice of 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, which will further be expandable via a microSD card of up to 128GB. In regards to other details, stock Android 8.1 Oreo will come pre-installed, while keeping the lights on will be a 3,000mAh battery.

Considering it’s now unclear when HMD Global will announce the device, consumers will have to wait a bit longer before the eventual release date is revealed. However, after the initial event was scheduled for today, it seems likely that the Nokia X5 will be available in China within the next few weeks, followed by a global launch under the Nokia 5.1 Plus name later on this year.
