Huawei's P6-inspired Ascend G6 unveiled with 4.5'' qHD display, quad-core processor and 4G LTE

Huawei has just taken down the drapes off a new mid-range offering that will be joining its range of products. Dubbed the Ascend G6, the device takes after the design cues of Huawei's still current flagship, the Ascend P6, though there are some noteworthy changes both under the hood and above.

The Ascend G6 sports a 4.5-inch, 540x960 pixel resolution qHD display (245 ppi) of unknown type, and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor. Seeing as the G6 is touted as 4G LTE-capable, but will first arrive in a 3G-only version, it's a bit unclear as to which chip(s) Huawei is going for. This is extra interesting, as Huawei has just revealed that its new, Cortex-A9 based HiSilicon chipset will support the coveted 4G LTE standard. Anyway, the rest of the specs highlights include an 8-megapixel f/2.0 aperture rear-facing camera with a Sony IMX134 sensor and an LED flash unit, with a 5-megapixel snapper taking care of the front. An NFC-equipped, 2000mAh battery is what you'll find embedded on the rear.

As mentioned, the Ascend G6 will come in 3G and 4G LTE versions, and, design-wise, there are some tiny differences pertaining to thickness. The former will be slightly slimmer, at 7.5 mm, while the speedier model will be a tad chubbier, at 7.85 mm.

Huawei will be making the 3G model of the Ascend G6 available first, in Q1 this year, while the 4G LTE version will see the light of day in April. And the suggested retail price? €249, or about $342.
