Although recent leaks have largely focused on Huawei’s next mid-range offering, the Mate 20 Lite, this smartphone is expected to accompany two premium smartphones later on this year in the form of the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. Currently, only a few details are known about the devices but thanks to one tipster, one of the display sizes may have just been revealed.

According to the information, one of the two flagship smartphones will make use of a large 6.25-inch display which includes a notch up top that is 6.8mm tall and a smaller chin down below that sports a thickness of 3.8mm. At this point in time, though, it’s not been confirmed whether this panel belongs to the smaller Mate 20 or the more expensive Mate 20 Pro. However, if Huawei’s recent moves are any indication, it seems the smaller Mate 20 may sport this panel, which not only means that the device will be much larger than last year’s Mate 10, but also suggests that the premium Mate 20 Pro should sport an even bigger panel, perhaps surpassing 6.5-inches in size. This assumption is made largely due to the fact that the regular Mate flagship tends to sport a similar display size to that of the Pro variant of Huawei’s P-series. Thus, because this year’s P20 Pro includes a 6.1-inch panel, the upcoming Mate 20 should include a display in that size range.

Aside from the new aspect ratio and larger screen, the Mate 20 is also rumored to include a large battery that will allow it to compete against Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9, while the new display is also rumored to include a fingerprint scanner underneath. Moreover, a triple-camera setup much like that of the P20 Pro is expected to be included.

Huawei is yet to confirm when its next flagship Mate series will become official but its launch history suggests an announcement sometime in October is likely.
