HTC is gearing up to unveil the successor to its One smartphone a little over a month from now.
The Taiwanese smartphone maker on Monday sent invitations to its next flagship smartphone announcement, occurring at two simultaneous events in New York and London on March 25.
"It's about time for the best to get even better!" HTC said in a statement accompanying the invite. "This is HTC's next big bet product that will be our primary flagship for 2014."
The invitation is light on details, though recent rumors suggest the HTC One follow-up, codenamed M8, will have a brushed metal body with a 5-inch 1080p display, 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, and run Google's latest mobile OS, Android 4.4 KitKat, according to Trusted Reviews. The phone may also include a second camera sensor on the back, designed to improve focus times and light metering.
The new handset will make its debut a month and a day after Samsung shows off its next-gen Galaxy S5 handset at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This next device is important for HTC, which has been struggling financially recently, and has barely made a dent in a market dominated by Apple and Samsung.
To boost its profile here in the U.S., the company on Monday launched a program called "HTC Advantage" which will guarantee flagship phone owners two years' worth of Android updates, cracked screen replacements for six months, and extra Google Drive storage.
Meanwhile, PCMag will be on hand at HTC's next flagship event, so stay tuned on March 25 for all the details. For more, see PCMag's full review of the HTC One.
