The last week was a pretty tough one for Microsoft despite the fact that it was supposed to be one of the key moments in the evolution of Windows 10 on all supported devices.

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 Mobile, but the company’s decision to leave behind several handsets running Windows Phone and not upgrading them to the new OS quickly backfired and almost everyone seems to be criticizing the software giant these days.
HTC M8 for Windows was confirmed as getting Windows 10 Mobile And bad news keeps coming. The most recent model that won’t be getting Windows 10 Mobile is HTC One M8 for Windows, one of the most popular non-Microsoft devices that launched with Windows Phone, and which was confirmed as eligible for the new operating system.
In fact, HTC itself revealed that M8 for Windows would be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile when it hits the market, but the official Twitter account of Windows Insider denied this over the weekend.
“No, the HTC One M8 will not receive an upgrade to W10 Mobile,” the message posted by the Windows Insider Twitter handle reads.
The decision not to upgrade HTC M8 to Windows 10 Mobile is a little surprising, especially because the hardware that the device comes with is clearly capable of coping with the requirements of the new operating system.
The phone features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor running at 2.3 GHz, an Adreno 330 GPU unit, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, and a screen of 5 inches. That’s clearly superior to the Lumia 640, for example, which is already getting the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile and has a Snapdragon 400 processor, Adreno 305 GPU, 1 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of storage.
There still are chances to get the upgrade Microsoft hasn’t yet provided a reason for leaving HTC M8 for Windows behind, but everyone hopes that the information posted by Windows Insider on Twitter wasn’t accurate and the company could change its mind as work on Windows 10 Mobile continues.
In fact, there are chances to see unsupported Windows Phone devices that are clearly eligible for the upgrade to be included in the Windows 10 Mobile rollout, as Microsoft’s already considering the Lumia Icon for a future release. Just like the M8, the Icon has the right hardware to run Windows 10 Mobile and Microsoft confirmed that it’s looking at a possible upgrade for this model.
And yet, promises no longer seem to mean anything these days, as Microsoft previously announced that Windows 10 Mobile would arrive on all its Windows Phone devices, only to disappoint a big part of its loyal community with the official announcement last week.
