Unveiled back in September, the HTC Desire 820 should make its way into the market sometime this month. One of the first HTC smartphones to pack a 64-bit chipset, the Desire 820 was supposed to be world’s first handset to be powered by such a system-on-chip, but the Taiwanese company decided to bring the Desire 510 on the market first.

Anyway, before the Desire 820 could make its debut on the market, HTC officially introduced yet another 64-bit smartphone, which seems to be a cheaper version of the standard model announced a few months ago.

The HTC Desire 820s has just been confirmed in China and will probably be available for purchase soon for a price to be announced closer to launch.

Unlike the standard model that packs a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, 1.5GHz quad-core CPU and 1GHz quad-core processor inside, the Desire 820s features a MediaTek chipset.

The good news is the MediaTek’s chipset features the same 64-bit architecture, though we’re not sure if it’s on par with Qualcomm’s SoC when it comes to performance.

According to GforGames, HTC Desire 820s will be powered by a MediaTek MT6752 chipset that accommodates eight 64-bit CPU cores, Cortex-A53, which are clocked at 1.7GHz.

Furthermore, the Adreno 405 graphics processing unit in the original model has been replaced with a Mali-T760 GPU made by Samsung.
The Desire 820s will still be powered by Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS

Aside from the chipset inside, the Desire 820s’ specs seem to be similar with those of the standard model. This means that the smartphone will come with a large 5.5-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and 267ppi (pixel per inch).

On the back, the Desire 820s has been confirmed to boast an impressive 13-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, which is decent enough for a mid-range Android smartphone.

Speaking of Android, the Desire 820s will ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box, but there’s a high chance the smartphone will receive a Lollipop update in the next few months.

There’s also a no less impressive 8-megapixel camera in the front, which can capture full HD (1080p) video and should be perfect for selfies and video calls.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Desire 820s packs 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

There’s no mention on exact release date, but we suspect this version will be launched in China around the same timeframe the standard HTC Desire 820 goes on sale internationally.
