HTC Desire 820 is a well-known mid-range Android smartphone that was officially unveiled by the Taiwanese handset maker last month.

Previous to the official announcement, the Desire 820 was rumored to be the world’s first 64-bit smartphone, but HTC decided to launch another device with a 64-bit chipset, the Desire 510.

Although the Desire 820 made its debut on the market only recently and it’s still not available for purchase in too many countries, HTC has decided to launch a smaller version that’s much cheaper than the standard model.

Dubbed HTC Desire 820 Mini, the smartphone has already been put on sale in China through major retailer Tmall, Phonearena reports. Customers can grab the device for only 1,400 yuan outright, which is about $230 or €180.

That will make the mini version of the HTC Desire 820 about $100 (€80) cheaper than the initial model. However, the cheaper price comes with lower specs, so it’s up to each customer to decide which of these two devices suits their needs best.

For example, unlike the standard HTC Desire 820 that comes equipped with a 64-bit 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, the mini model is powered by a regular 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor.

It also comes with a smaller, 5-inch HD (720p) capacitive touchscreen display, as the Desire 820 sports a much larger, 5.5-inch screen.

On the inside, HTC Desire 820 Mini is packed with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, but thanks to the included microSD card slot, users will be able to further expand internal memory up to 64GB.

The mid-range smartphone features an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back with autofocus, LED flash, and video recording, as well as a 5-megapixel camera in the front, which is perfect for selfies and video calls.

It's unclear whether or not HTC will make it available outside China

Furthermore, the Desire 820 Mini offers dual-SIM capability, though this feature may not be available in other regions if HTC decides to make the smartphone available internationally.

Other connectivity options packed within the phone include LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB 2.0, GPS with A-GPS, and GLONASS.

HTC Desire 820 Mini has been confirmed to ship with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box. If the smartphone makes it to additional countries, there might be a chance for HTC to bring it to Android 5.0 Lollipop sometime next year.

Unfortunately, for the time being, it’s unclear whether or not HTC will launch the Desire 820 Mini in other countries, but stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
