Gionee is one of the many Chinese smartphone manufacturers pushing strong, low-cost handsets. We recently saw with the Gionee S8 hands-on that this company can produce nice-looking, well-equipped devices at an agreeable price point, and now, said firm has a couple of new entries with the Gionee S6 Pro and P7 Max.

Though Gionee may have slipped under your radar, you may have seen some of its devices rebranded under the BLU moniker in the West. We first caught wind of the Gionee S6 late last year before its arrival back in February for around $300. The Gionee S6 Pro is quite similar in the looks department to the standard model, which offered a 90 per cent metallic finish. Housed in a metal unibody, the Pro packs a decent internal upgrade while retaining a price close to the $300 mark.

The 5.5-inch 1080 x 1920 display makes a return but under the hood, the S6 Pro gets an improved Helio P10 SoC with a 1.8 GHz maximum clock speed. There's also 4 gigabytes of RAM this time around as opposed to 3, and 64 GB of on-board storage rather than 32. You can expand via microSD thanks to the secondary hybrid slot, which can also house a second nanoSIM card. You can have more storage or two SIMs, but not both at the same time.

Elsewhere, the device gets a 13-megapixel main camera, while an 8-megapixel selfie shooter adorns the front. The main point of physical connection is provided by USB Type-C and software-wise, the device gets Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with Gionee's own Amigo OS 3.2 overlay. The Gionee S6 Pro, which also includes a 3130 mAh battery to keep the lights on, will retail in Nepal for NRP 34999, or $329.

The P7 Max, meanwhile, scales down on the hardware but comes in at a significantly lower cost. Also boasting a metal finish, it includes a 720 x 1280 5.5-inch display, 3 GB RAM, 32 GB ROM, 13-megapixel main camera and 5-megapixel front snapper. The P7 Max, like the S6 Pro, gets Android Marshmallow with Amigo OS 3.2, and is kitted out with a 3100 mAh battery for the price of just NRP 21999 ($207)

There's no word on when or if these devices will roll out to other markets. If we hear of any updates in this regard, though, we'll be sure to pass them on. In the meantime, let us know what you make of the S6 Pro and P7 Max in the comments below.
