If you follow the Chinese smartphone market, you’re probably familiar with Gionee, which is known for its cheap but decently specced Android smartphones.

Last month, word surfaced that Gionee would soon introduce a new flagship device called the Elife E8, and we even got to take a look at its specifications. Now, the latest information regarding this handset is suggesting that the device will come equipped with an amazing camera.

Possible Elife E8 specs

The phone will apparently arrive to replace the current E7 flagship and it will sport improved specifications. Word on the street has it that the Elife E8 will boast a 5.7 or 6-inch display with QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels).

When it comes to CPU, Gionee will probably employ the services of a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset clocked at 2.2GHz and working in concert with 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of storage (expandable to 128GB via microSD card slot).

If the rumor mill is accurate, Gionee will launch two versions of the Elife E8, one with 32GB of storage and one with 64GB.

Elife's future flagship is certainly made for shooting

Now, let’s talk a little bit about the camera specifications. According to the most recent batch of information coming to us via Giz China, the Elife E8 is expected to incorporate a 23.8MP camera sensor, most likely the OmniVision OV23850, which will be capable of shooting images at a whopping 100MP.

This statement might sound insane, but remember there was a similar story about Oppo’s Find 7 smartphone, which employed advanced camera software that allowed an interpolation which ultimately produced 51MP results.

We also know that the shooter on Elife E8 should be able to offer OIS (optical image stabilization) among other functions.

The current Elife E7 bundles a 16MP camera, so it would be quite a jump if its successor arrives with a 23.8MP sensor on board.

Gionee is expected to initially launch the new flagship in China, but starting with the beginning of June, smartphone enthusiasts in India should be able to grab it too.

International users who want to have a taste of Gionee’s latest mobile effort will probably have to rely on third-party re-sellers to get a unit.
