Not that it comes as a huge surprise, given that we just had the most expensive year on record in terms of average smartphone prices, but a leaker with a good track record tips that the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will fit comfortably into that trend, and become the most expensive phones in the history of Samsung's flagship S-line. As you may recall, the Galaxy S7 started at $650, its successor Galaxy S8 at $750, and we shudder to think what this might mean for the Galaxy S9.

Are we looking at an $800 starting price here? Please let Ricciolo be wrong, but, when it comes to pricing, the guy has correctly predicted the tags range of Samsung's S-line phones for a few years in a row. Granted, that variable camera aperture doesn't come cheap, as Samsung's first phone with it - the W2018 clamshell - can attest, but still, those prices will indeed be getting out of hand, if this rumor holds water on February 25, when the Galaxy S9 is expected to be announced.
