With the launch of Android 7.0 Nougat back in August of 2016, Google commenced a new annual launch timeline for its operating system that would see major releases roll out in the eight month of each year. And if a recent Tweet from Evan Blass that hints at the release date is anything to go by, it seems Android 9.0 P will follow suit by making its debut on August 20.

Currently, Google is yet to make any official announcement in regards to the launch date so it remains speculation for the time being. However, the date does coincide with the brand’s previous releases – Android Nougat made its debut on August 22, while Oreo arrived on August 21. In regards to what the official name will be, this is also unconfirmed at this point, although certain rumors have mentioned Android Pistachio, Android Pumpkin Pie, or simply Android Pie as possible candidates.

Regardless of what the new version of Android is called, the release will bring various improvements such as Adaptive Battery and Brightness. Furthermore, a new gesture-based navigation system that makes better use of taller displays will be offered alongside a new rotation button that appears in the navigation bar. Also, a big focus on the digital wellbeing of users will also arrive.

Upon the announcement of the final version, Google is expected to push the update out to its Pixel smartphones shortly after. Additionally, devices that have supported the developer preview release are also expected to receive the final release in a timely manner, something that should provide a big boost to the initial adoption rate of the OS.
