Chinese OEM Elephone confirmed a while ago it will bring its cheap smartphones to the Indian market, but the company did not mention when it will make the move.

It looks like today is the day for Elephone and Android fans alike, as the Chinese company has just launched the G7, a cheap but powerful smartphone.

“India is a highly competitive market, so we bring our high quality and performance products with aggressive price, which is slight higher than net cost of the products.

Elephone is directly cooperating with one of the largest marketplace in India – Snapdeal. We’re glad to cooperate with Snapdeal and willing to bring more good products to India like G9 and P4000,” said Elephone's CEO.

Apart from the fact that it's quite the looker at only 5.5mm thickness, Elephone G7 will be available for purchase for just Rs 8,888 outright, which is about $140 or €130. That's quite a good deal considering the phone's specs sheet.

According to a new report, Elephone G7 will be available in black, white and gold. However, customers will only be able to pick this one up via Snapdeal.
Great hardware, but disappointing software

Moving on to specs, Elephone G7 is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592M processor, which is complemented by a Mali 450 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

Although the phone packs just 8GB of internal memory, users can further expand storage up to 64GB via microSD card slot.

Elephone G7 sports a large 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating.

The dual-SIM smartphone also boasts a more than decent 13-megapixel camera on the back, which features f/2.0 aperture, autofocus, LED flash and video recording, as well as secondary 8-megapixel camera in the front.

Unfortunately, the smartphone ships with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system right out of the box, and is powered by a rather low capacity 2,050 mAh battery.
