At the core of Apple iPhone X's Face ID camera magic is the new front facing camera. Apple calls it a 'TrueDepth' camera and it is the most advanced front shooter ever put on an iPhone. A crafty Japanese developer has put it to a brand new use that is not practical by any means, but shows just what crazy features you can achieve with it.

In this case, Kazuya Noshiro, a virtual reality developer, erased his face nearly completely - except for the eyes and mouth - in a trick of 'optical camouflage'.

You can see a demo of this in the 10-second video right below. The developer himself admits that there is no use for that and joked that "if you want to make your face transparent, we're recruiting."

To make this work, the developer seems to have first pre-recorded a footage of its background and then overimposed his face that the camera can track in real life on top of that footage.

Apple itself showed that much more advanced masking is possible with this technology on stage at the iPhone X unveiling, using SnapChat filters as an example.
