The OnePlus 6T is coming and it will be the first OnePlus phone to feature an innovative, in-screen fingerprint scanner. Unlike previous leaks and rumors, this time the information comes straight from OnePlus itself. The company confirmed the presence of the in-display fingerprint reader in its upcoming flagship phone to CNET.

OnePlus has named the new feature Screen Unlock and it is expected to help OnePlus minimize screen bezel and remove the inconveniences of a rear-positioned fingerprint scanner.

"We unlock our phones multiple times a day, and Screen Unlock reduces the number of steps to complete the action," said OnePlus. "By adding this feature as an addition to other display unlocking options such as Face Unlock, users will have options to unlock the display in a way that is most efficient for them."

This new type of fingerprint scanner is actually embedded under the screen and implementing it meant that OnePlus had to redesign the insides of the 6T and make it just a bit thicker (it's expected to be 0.45mm thicker).

OnePlus had thought of using an in-screen fingerprint reader back on the OnePlus 5T, but the technology was not mature enough at that point in time, and now the company is confident that it can work well.

The other big news about the OnePlus 6T is that it will be the first OnePlus phone officially sold on a major US carrier: T-Mobile will carry the OnePlus 6T, helping the company gain a wider foothold in the US market.

A leaked retail box of the OnePlus 6T revealed details about the phone last week and it seems to come with a smaller, "teardrop" notch and an innovative triple camera system. We don't yet know what will be the purpose of the third camera: it could be a telephoto lens, a super wide-angle lens or a dedicated black-and-white shooter (our bet is on a tele lens).

The OnePlus 6T is said to be priced at $550 for the base model and it should be unveiled in October, so it won't be too long until we learn more about it.
