Windows Phone managed to switch places with BlackBerry and is now ranked three in top 5 mobile operating systems, but Microsoft’s platform is not in a good position compared with those above it.

Android and iOS have quite a high share of the market and the gap between these two OSes and Windows Phone does seem insurmountable at first glance.

Nevertheless, Microsoft is now focusing on growth, which means we should see bigger numbers when it comes to Windows Phone market share.

Even though lots of customers are still waiting for Microsoft to launch a true flagship smartphone, the Redmond-based company seems more interested in bringing as many budget-friendly devices in emerging markets.

The Lumia 535, Microsoft’s latest smartphone is a mid-range Windows Phone that offers decent specs at a very low price. Apart from its own cheap Windows Phone handsets, Microsoft is also letting local OEMs launch smartphones powered by its mobile operating system without paying any royalty fees.

Indian handset makers like Micromax and Karbonn have already launched their budget-friendly smartphones in the country, but given how huge the Indian market is, there’s always room for more players.

The next Indian OEM to launch a Windows Phone handset in the country is Celkon, The Mobile Indian reports. According to the company’s Executive Director Murali Rentineni, “Celkon will be launching a Windows 8.1 based smartphone by month end for Rs 4,999.”

This means that Indian customers will be able to grab Celkon’s smartphone powered by Windows Phone 8.1 for only $80 (€65), which makes it the cheapest handset running Microsoft’s mobile platform.

Obviously, in order to offer the smartphone for such a low amount, Celkon had to make some compromises when it comes to specs.
Celkon Win 400 comes with the lowest hardware possible

That’s why the upcoming Celkon smartphone powered by Windows Phone 8.1 will sport a 4.0-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

In addition, the smartphone will come packed with a 5-megapixel camera on the back and a VGA front-facing camera for video calls and selfies.

Hardware-wise, Celkon’s handset will be equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, 512MB of RAM and only 4GB of internal memory. If you’re looking for more storage, then you will have to purchase a microSD memory card separately.

Last but not least, the upcoming low-end smartphone will be powered by a 2,500 mAh removable battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

Celkon Win 400 will be launched in India by November 30 and is likely to remain exclusive to this country, so if you’re not living in this country, look for other cheap Windows Phone handset.
