BlackBerry prides itself on making its version of the Android software it provides to licensees, safe and secure. To that end, it has been pretty good on updating its Android handsets with the most recent security updates. Today, it has started pushing out the Android August 5th security update for the BlackBerry KEY2. Keep in mind that the carrier-sold Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are just receiving the July security update, although that is not exactly comparing apples to apples.

The update weighs in at 400MB, and once it has arrived on your KEY2, make sure that you are connected to a Wi-Fi signal before starting the updating process. In addition, the battery on the handset should be charged fully before you start downloading and installing the update. The software version is ABE181.

Since BlackBerry is pushing this out OTA, it might not hit your KEY2 for a few days yet. If you want to try to coax out the update manually, go to Settings > Systems Updates > Check for updates now.
