Good news for BlackBerry fans anxiously awaiting for the last smartphone to be released by the Canadian company this year, the Classic, as the device has just been confirmed for release next month.

Although BlackBerry Classic should have made its debut on the market this month, due to some issues with the BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 update, which has been pushed to early 2015, the smartphone has been delayed by one month.

But when exactly will customers be able to purchase the Classic and for how much? Well, it looks like BlackBerry has just unveiled more details on its upcoming smartphone during its BES 2014 press event in San Francisco, BlackBerryOS reports.

According to John Chen, the company’s CEO, BlackBerry Classic will be available for purchase beginning December 17, just in time for the holidays.

It’s also worth mentioning that the BlackBerry Classic will be officially launched on the market during a press event that will take place in three cities simultaneously: New York City (US), Frankfurt (Germany) and Singapore (Singapore).

Those who can’t wait to place their orders until then can already pre-purchase the Classic for no less than $450 (€360) outright. The smartphone is now available on the company’s webstore, Shop BlackBerry.

For the time being, you can pre-order the BlackBerry Classic from webstores in the United States, Canada and the UK, but we suspect the device will be available in brick and mortar stores on launch day.

The Classic is the company’s answer to those who were blaming it for having gone too far design-wise from the standard layout that would make BlackBerry smartphones so recognizable.

But BlackBerry Classic is more than this, hence the higher than expected price. Judging by the specs sheet, the Classic is a mid-range smartphone, which sports a small 3.5-inch display that supports 720 x 720 pixels resolution.

When it comes to hardware, BlackBerry Classic has been confirmed to pack a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.

The smartphone features microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 128GB) as well, along with an enhanced 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

There’s also a secondary 2-megapixel camera in the front and wide range of connectivity options such as LTE, HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC (Near Field Communication) and GPS with A-GPS.

Last but not least, BlackBerry Classic is powered by a removable 2515 mAh battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.
