Although Huawei is having a bit of trouble at the moment, the world’s second-largest smartphone manufacturer has no plans to delay the Honor 20’s announcement. But ahead of tomorrow’s event, a bunch of press renders have leaked showcasing the regular Honor 20 in its entirety.

Punch hole display and four rear cameras

The Honor 20, like most 2019 flagships, is equipped with a large display paired with thin bezels and a slightly thicker chin. But contrary to initial rumors, the smartphone doesn’t feature a notch and instead opts for a punch hole positioned in the top-left corner of the 6.26-inch panel, thus indicating the presence of an LCD display rather than an AMOLED alternative.

Another feature often included on high-end devices these days in an in-display fingerprint scanner, be it optical or ultrasonic. Due to Honor’s typically low prices and smaller profit margins, though, the company appears to have equipped the Honor 20 with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that doubles as a power button and sits directly below the volume rocker.

Turning the Honor 20 on its back reveals an interesting camera layout that is clearly inspired by the Huawei P30 Pro that made its debut earlier this year. Towards the top-left corner sits a vertical camera setup that includes three individual sensors and an LED flash.

According to previous leaks, the primary camera on the Honor 20 will offer a 48-megapixel resolution. However, through software the smartphone will default to taking higher quality 12-megapixel shots by combining 4 pixels into 1, a feature Honor calls ‘Light Fusion.’

In addition to this, a 16-megapixel camera that allows for ultra-wide-angle shots looks set to be included. A dedicated telephoto camera is unfortunately not present, but the Honor 20 does reportedly include a 2-megapixel sensor designed to take macro images from distances of just 4cm (1.6-inches).

Sitting next to all of this is Honor’s ‘AI Vision’ and '48MP' branding which indicates the presence of AI camera features and essentially confirms the main camera’s resolution, and a fourth sensor which boasts a 2-megapixel resolution and focuses on gathering depth data for portrait images.

Huawei P30 Pro performance without the premium price tag

Like Huawei and Honor’s other range-topping smartphones, the Honor 20 is expected to arrive equipped with the company’s own Kirin 980 that is already used inside the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Huawei P30 Pro. In terms of performance, the chip sits just below the Snapdragon 855 used inside the OnePlus 7 Pro and Galaxy S10 but should still provide very impressive results.

Accompanying will reportedly be a minimum of 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. If this isn’t enough, though, variants with higher storage counts and potentially more RAM should be available to purchase too. In any case, the storage should be expandable by microSD cards, although Honor could make the switch over to Huawei’s proprietary nanoSD format.

Completing the Honor 20’s setup looks set to be a 3,750mAh battery paired with support for Huawei’s 22.5W SuperCharge technology, something that should provide a 50% charge in just 30 minutes. Also to be expected is Android 9 Pie straight out of the box alongside the Magic 2.1 custom interface – a variant of Huawei’s EMUI 9.1 – Bluetooth 5.0, 4G LTE, and a 32-megapixel selfie camera.


Regarding the Honor 20’s release and availability, the Honor 20 will be announced tomorrow at an event in London alongside the larger (and more expensive) Honor 20 Pro. Pre-orders are expected to kick off immediately after the event prior to a release at some point next week. Pricing hasn’t yet been revealed, but the device should be significantly cheaper than the Huawei P30 which currently retails at €749.99 ($836) in Europe. As revealed by the renders, it’ll be available to purchase in Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, and an unnamed white variant.
